Repurposing the Temperature Warning Light for Brake Safety
Motivation
After installing a water temperature gauge for more accurate engine monitoring, I found myself with an unused temperature idiot light on the dash. Rather than leave it disconnected, I saw an opportunity to put it to better use with my newly installed brake proportioning valve. The proportioning valve came with a sensor connection that grounds when brake pressure fails to either the front or rear circuits – perfect for triggering a warning light. Since the original temperature sensor connector was now available, I simply wired it to the proportioning valve’s sensor output. Now if I experience brake pressure loss to either circuit, the temperature warning light illuminates on the dash. It’s a simple modification that repurposes existing components to provide critical safety information. Knowing immediately if you’ve lost brake pressure to half your braking system is definitely worth having that extra warning light active. Sometimes the best modifications are the ones that make smart use of what you already have! Proportioning valve sensor Unused sensor connector (blue) near temp on manifold Temp idiot light
